Dr. med. Jan Gewiess has been awarded a research grant by the Burgergemeinde Bern for his research project, "Range of Motion After Selective Thoracic Fusion for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: A Minimum 15+ Year Follow-up Study." According to the decision of 2 July 2026, the project will receive funding of CHF 3,700.

The awarded project is entitled:

Range of Motion After Selective Thoracic Fusion for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: A Minimum 15+ Year Follow-up Study

The study investigates the long-term range of motion in patients who have undergone selective thoracic spinal fusion for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. By following patients for a minimum of 15 years after surgery, the study aims to provide valuable insights into the long-term functional outcomes of this well-established treatment approach.

The support provided by the Burgergemeinde Bern represents an important recognition of the value of clinical research in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology. This funding will enable the project to be carried out as proposed and further advance this important research.
