Our Senior Consultant in Foot and Ankle Surgery, Dr. med. Verena Hecht, has been selected for the prestigious EFAS–AOFAS–NZFAS Travelling Fellowship. In a highly competitive selection process, she stood out among numerous applicants and secured one of only two fellowship positions awarded across Europe.
The fellowship is jointly organized by the European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS), the Australian Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS), and the New Zealand Foot and Ankle Society (NZFAS). It is regarded as one of the most distinguished international exchange programmes in the field of foot and ankle surgery, bringing together outstanding early-career and emerging leaders with internationally renowned experts and leading clinical and research centres around the world.
The programme begins with the AOFAS & NZFAS Congress in Singapore from 13–16 August 2026. This is followed by a three-week fellowship tour across Australia, including visits to selected hospitals and research institutions. The programme focuses on academic exchange, discussions of the latest developments in foot and ankle surgery, and the promotion of international collaboration and professional networking.
“Dr. Hecht’s selection for this fellowship is an outstanding recognition of her clinical expertise, scientific commitment, and international reputation,” said Prof. Dr. med. Moritz Tannast, Director of the Department. “We are delighted by her success and proud that she will represent our department on this distinguished international platform.”
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology warmly congratulates Dr. Hecht on this outstanding achievement and wishes her an inspiring, rewarding, and successful fellowship experience.
